Turnaround time varies depending on the scope of the project. Most projects are completed within 10 to 12 business days, but potential clients should keep in mind that every project is unique. One manuscript may require minimal work and be finished in seven days, while another may need more attention and take up to a full month. After reviewing the documents you submit for editing, we will provide an estimated timeframe tailored to your project.

Proofreading focuses only on correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic tense errors.

Copyediting includes proofreading but also addresses sentence clarity, consistency in language use, formatting, and adherence to the selected style guide while preserving the author’s voice.

Content editing is the most in-depth level and may involve rewriting or restructuring sections to improve flow, tone, pacing, character consistency, and overall readability while maintaining the author’s intent.

Most edits are completed in Microsoft Word using the Track Changes feature. When the edited document is returned, clients can clearly view every suggested revision and decide which changes to accept.

All edits are guided by the appropriate style manual for each project. Most manuscripts follow The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), while select projects may require APA (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association). MLA is not typically used at NekeReads, as we do not provide student academic editing services.

NekeReads follows Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary as the primary authority for spelling, vocabulary, and usage consistency.
